Wattle is the kind of creature that makes people hold their breath so they do not scare her away. A graceful eastern grey kangaroo doe, she frequents a meadow at the edge of farmland where wildflowers grow thick in spring. She is gentler and more curious than most wild roos, approaching visitors with a tentative delicacy that charms everyone who encounters her. Local farmers consider her good luck and leave water out for her during dry spells. She has an old braided grass anklet on one hind leg, suggesting someone once cared for her.
